A KENSINGTON TOWNHOUSE REIMAGINED AS A BRIGHT AND CHARACTERFUL FAMILY HOME
A young French family relocating from the U.S. entrusted OWN LONDON to transform their tired Kensington townhouse into a vibrant, functional home. The brief focused on maximising space, accommodating their growing family, and creating seamless indoor-outdoor living.

We opened up the entrance and increased ceiling heights for a light and expansive feel. On the first floor, two bedrooms were reconfigured into three, introducing sliding doors, dividing the children’s rooms to create a shared play area.
At the top of the house, the principal bedroom extends into a mint-green dressing room with bespoke joinery, and an elegant marble bathroom beyond.
In the sitting room, a bespoke three-seater sofa in George Spencer fabric pairs with a mohair velvet “croissant” shaped sofa, while a custom linen canvas, embroidered with seventeen types of weave, artfully conceals the television. A bespoke statement brass framed drinks cabinet with concealed fridge, sink and ‘hidden cloakroom’ provides a seamless connection to the dining room.
The lower-ground kitchen, designed for entertaining, features tailored wine and champagne storage, and skylights for optimum natural light. The bespoke banquette seating and dining table overlook the verdant garden terrace.
Outside, the garden is divided into three distinct spaces: a terrace with playful striped seating, a lawn with an L-shaped sofa, and a timber guest house with a shower, serving as a flexible home office.
Associate Director of Interior Design, Alicia Meireles led the FF&E on the project and explains that “A huge benefit of working within the OWN LONDON team is the ease of communication between the different disciplines.” The result is a bright, spacious, deeply personal home, blending the warmth of classic design with a modern sensibility.
